POLICE say a Canberra taxi driver who went to assist a woman who jumped from his moving vehicle was punched in the face by a man she was travelling with, then had his vehicle stolen.
Police say the 20-year-old woman jumped from the taxi as it travelled along Belconnen Way at Macquarie, about 12.30am (AEST) on Monday, after arguing with a 21-year-old man who was with her.

The driver immediately stopped the vehicle to go to her assistance.

He was allegedly punched in the face by the man, who then ushered the woman back into the taxi and drove off.

The taxi and the couple were later located at Calvary Hospital.

The 21-year-old man has been charged with common assault, taking a motor vehicle without consent, driving under the influence of alcohol and being unlicensed
